Angel Poole, 25, was given a 10-year prison sentence following the death of baby Judah Wessels, in July 2016.
Doctors found Judah was a healthy and well-fed baby when he was examined just eight days after he was born.
But when the two-month-old died, he weighed just 5lbs (2.3kgs), half the weight of a healthy infant of the same age and 2lbs less than when he was born.
Poole, of Birmingham, Iowa, missed several check-ups for Judah and reportedly told police that she “never got round to it”.
When the baby started to have difficulty breathing, Poole called emergency services but Judah died in hospital an hour later.
An autopsy said he was “markedly malnourished” and died of starvation and dehydration.
A photo of Judah was published on his dad’s Facebook page which showed him looking underweight and Poole said: “He was so handsome, like his daddy.”
Poole admitted child endangerment resulting in serious injury, and it is the second child that she has lost, with the first called Destinee Electra Rose.
Last October she shared a Facebook post promoting ‘Baby Loss Awareness Month” where she said she was “remembering my babies”.
Poole looked to blame Judah’s death on a head injury.
She wrote: “Got some good news today.
“The new prosecutor in y case may have found exculpatory evidence while speaking to the doctor that examined Judah’s brain, he notified my lawyer of it a few days ago.”
She continued: “I think this is all finally coming to an end.”
Her partner Ed Wixom, supported her, replying: “All o that stupid s*** they are trying to charge you with should be dropped everyone knows that you’re a good mother.”
