A fisherman has been left disturbed after reeling in a dead body instead of a fish.

Luis Castoire made the grisly discovery while fishing in Central Park – he thought he had hooked a fish.

The man quickly called the police after finding the body at around 11am on Thursday.

Mr Castoir told NBC: "I thought I was seeing a ghost.

“I felt a thump, my hook had gotten stuck … When I go to lift it, I seen the leg come up, and then I saw the rest of the body.”

Terrified, the man had to look away from his discovery he revealed, reports 7news.

The fisherman, who has been visiting Central Park since he was seven-years-old, said: “It was devastating, really devastating. I couldn’t believe it with my own eyes, I just couldn’t."

Police say the body was of a man in his 30s from Harlem.

The victim was found with head wounds, however the cause of death is yet to be determined.

After the discovery, the area was turned into a crime scene as authorities began an investigation.

One local, Kylie Debor said: “It was very quiet. I was sitting here, there are lots of sirens going on … and it’s very unexpected.

“It’s definitely upsetting, it’s a tragedy for the family, for the person involved and for the neighbourhood.”

Although Mr Castoire is a regular visitor of the area, he said he might find it difficult to return to the place.

“I don’t think I could be able to come back to this park. This is like my backyard. I don’t think personally I could come back to this park and be able to fish here, knowing that I hooked up into a body,” Castoire said.

The discovery is the third body found in Central Park this month, last week the body of a man in his 50s was discovered, and on September 7 another body was found flaoting in the pond, reports 7news.
