Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has joined a conservative think tank in Washington DC — a move that could possibly set him up for a 2024 presidential run.
Pompeo, who is now a private citizen, took a job with Hudson Institute, a non-profit based in DC, where he would have the opportunity to engage in policy discussions and be close to major donors of the Republican Party, Axios reported Tuesday.
“I am pleased to be joining Hudson Institute and look forward to contributing to its mission of promoting American leadership and global engagement,” Pompeo said in a statement to the outlet.
Hudson is popular among conservatives who view it as a platform for policy proposals.
“Secretary Pompeo’s exemplary record of public service and his commitment to the values underpinning our mission makes this an exciting opportunity for collaboration,” said Sarah May Stern, chair of Hudson’s board of trustees, according to Axios.
The day after President Biden’s inauguration, Pompeo tweeted, “1,384 days,” which happened to be the amount of days until the 2024 presidential election.
