Harry and Meghan wouldn’t get Netflix deal now as ‘boring celebs’ – commentator

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not considered “royals” in the US and no longer have an interesting enough brand to attract the attention of streaming giants, a celebrity commentator has claimed.

After leaving royal duties in early 2020, Harry and Meghan set about establishing the production arm of their charitable Archewell foundation, and signed lucrative deals with Spotify and Netflix.

As part of this, Meghan is set to release a podcast series titled Archetypes on Spotify this year, but the former actress recently received bad news that her Netflix original animated series Pearl had been cancelled amid cuts at the company.

And, amid reported fears about the couple’s brand, celebrity commentator Perez Hilton suggested that Meghan and Harry may not receive the same kind of offers for large-scale schemes in the future.

“I think that they got very lucky in the timing of everything, because if Meghan and Harry tried to get a deal like that today, I think it would be near impossible for them,” he told royal expert Kinsey Schofield on the To Di For Daily Podcast.

“They both were able to secure huge paychecks from Netflix and Spotify in a time when both of those brands were giving out huge paychecks.

“As we have seen this year, both Netflix and Spotify are going through a lot of change, amnd Netflix especially is no longer handing out those ginormous pay days because they’ve taken a huge hit.”

And, the celebrity commentator suggested that although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continued to be referred to under their royal titles, they weren’t received in the US with the same status as the likes of Kate Middleton and Prince William.

“They are boring. To my expert observation, what Meghan and Harry are doing is they clearly sat down, studied everything that Michelle Obama and Barack Obama have done over the last five years, and are modelling themselves after that,” he added.

“In America, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not royals to us, they are celebrities, and unfortunately they’re boring celebrities.”

This comes as sources claim that Harry and Meghan did not receive an invite to spend summer with the Queen at Balmoral, amid rumours of a royal falling out.
