Weather: Met Office issues yellow warnings for snow and ice
More ice and snow is set to sweep the UK as the Met Office warns of difficult conditions amid a five-day cold snap. Yellow warnings have been issued by the weather agency for snow and ice across the country, including southern England, parts of the northwest and north Wales, Northern Ireland and large parts of northern Scotland.
A level three cold alert has been issued by health chiefs for the “severe winter weather” as people are urged to check up on their loved ones who may be vulnerable. Drivers have been told not to travel unless essential as many areas see lows of -5C overnight, leaving roads icy and treacherous – although this is slated to reach as low as -11C in some parts of the country later this week.
