Meghan Markle’s sister Samantha vows to sue over bombshell claims in book

Samantha Markle, sister of Meghan Markle has vowed to sue the Duchess of Sussex over the book about the royal's life, Finding Freedom.

She claims that her sister Meghan had falsely briefed about her to the authors of the controversial unofficial biography.

Samatha claims she will be meeting her legal team again on Monday to explore her options of suing Meghan for “defamation, libel and slander” as well as “breach of privacy”.

Speaking to the Sunday People, she said: “I’m speaking to one lawyer in England and one in the US as there are different statutory windows and different issues.”

Samantha, 57, said she was left in shock on Wednesday when Meghan apologised to the Court of Appeal after emails were disclosed, contradicting a claim that she had not collaborated with the co-authors of biography Finding Freedom, the Mirror reports.

The messages, revealed by the Duchess’ ex-communications secretary Jason Knauf, show she sent him details about Samantha and brother Thomas Jr, asking him to pass them to writers Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

Writing in the third person, she also urged him to say that her siblings had “dropped out of high school” and that she had “never had a relationship with either of them”.

She added: “Upon Meghan dating Harry, Samantha changed her name back to Markle and began a career creating stories to sell to the press. She had lost custody of all three of her children from different fathers.”

Meghan has not spoken to Samantha since meeting Prince Harry in 2016. Samantha, who disputes a number of Meghan’s claims, said: “I’m looking at suing for defamation in the US. In the UK, I’m looking at a breach of privacy and data privacy act breach because the statutory window for defamation is only one year in the UK.

“Jason Knauf is subpoenable and the messages to [him] are evidence she was libelling and slandering me. It seems anything to keep this family quiet was my sister’s motto. It’s horrible.”

Wheelchair-user Samantha, who has MS, added: “I’ve never lost custody of any children. She said I changed my name when she met Harry, but I shared my name-change documents long before.”

Samantha, who shares the same dad as Meghan, Thomas Snr, said they had a “normal family life”

She claimed: “But she wanted to make us look estranged and separated to discredit us as that was an excuse to keep everybody away from the wedding.”

This week, judges heard that Meghan addressed her father as “Daddy” in a letter that would “pull at the heartstrings” if it ever became public.

Some of her messages were presented as evidence against her claim the letter was purely private.

The Mail on Sunday is seeking to overturn a High Court ruling that it unlawfully breached Meghan’s privacy by publishing extracts from it.

Meghan said she had “forgotten” giving Mr Knauf details of what to reveal to Scobie and Durand.

Samantha, who has released her own book, The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister, claimed: “It shows she’s manipulative.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been approached for comment.
