Murderer Chris Watts tried to blame mistress for killing daughters, inmate says
Murderer Chris Watts blamed the killing of his two young daughters on his mistress, a former inmate who spent time with him has claimed.
Watts, 36, is serving five life sentences without possibility of parole for the murders of his then-pregnant wife Shanann and their two young daughters, Bella, 4, and three-year-old Celeste.
The 36-year-old had initially acted the concerned husband and father when Shanann and the girls were reported missing, but Watts admitted to strangling Shanann to death after failing a polygraph test.
He alleges that it was his wife who had killed the kids in the horrific murders that took place on August 13, 2018.
Following his sentencing however, Watts admitted to smothering the two girls at an oil site leased by the company he worked for and dumped the children's bodies in oil storage tanks after burying his wife in a shallow grave nearby.
An investigation revealed Watts had been having an extramarital relationship with co-worker Nichol Kessinger and Watts is said to have had plans to start a new life with her.
Former inmate David Carter, who spent two spells with Watts in Dodge Correctional Facility, has claimed the killer deflected blame for the murder onto Kessinger.
Carter, 35, who says he was serving time for theft and possession of methamphetamine, became close with Watts during his spell in the slammer.

Speaking to The Sun, Carter said: "We were on the same unit together, unit 11. It’s for people that can’t fit in with the general population and people with medical issues.
"I told him that I couldn’t judge him for what had happened, but I'd like to know what was going through his head."
According to Carter, that is when Watts made the claim that "Nichol had smothered the girls with their blankets and they suffocated".
Watts is said to have also claimed she helped him "get the girls in the oil tanks and dig the grave for Shannan."
Carter said Watts "wasn’t able to stomach killing his own kids and he said that’s why Nichol killed them."
