Perv caught with dog porn ‘gave into temptation’ after gran’s death

A convicted paedophile was caught with indecent images of children and a video of a woman engaging in sexual acts with a dog as he sat in a meeting with his probation officer.

Despite being caught with the horrific footage Joe McKinney, 40, has walked free from court.

He was found to be in possession of the disturbing material after he turned up for the meeting on December 17, 2019, where he acted in a “furtive” way with his mobile phone, HullLive reports.

The probation officer noticed this and decided to call the police who arrived at the office to seize McKinney’s phone and analyse it.

Officers found a two-minute video on the device of a 16-year-old male and female performing a sexual act as well images of the same girl wearing only her underwear.

A two-minute video showing an adult female performing sexual acts with a dog was also found.

“He was interviewed about these matters and made admissions,” said prosecuting barrister Paul Genney at Hull Crown Court on Thursday (April 29).

“He said he was having personal problems involving the care of his father and he took full responsibility and apologised.”

McKinney, of Portobello Street in east Hull, was previously convicted for a similar offence back in November 2016.

He was placed on the sex offender register and sentenced to an 18-month community order for three offences of making indecent images of children, one offence of extreme pornography, and for sending indecent images.

Following the death of his grandmother in 2018, McKinney “gave into temptation” and “fell into his old habits”.

“His grandmother went downhill in terms of her health and deteriorated so quickly suffering from dementia,” said mitigating barrister Stephen Robinson.

“She died in 2018. The defendant felt stressed and depressed about that and unfortunately he fell into his old habits of viewing pornography.

“Initially legal but sadly it led to the downloading and viewing of these limited number of images. He sadly gave in to temptation.”

Mr Robinson told the court that since McKinney was caught he has attempted to avoid using the internet and only browses online to do his shopping.

“If he has any inappropriate thoughts he tries to get out and about by going for a walk and to do something to take his mind off it,” said Mr Robinson.

“He has made continued efforts to try and stop doing this again.”

McKinney was sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended for two years and must complete 40 days of rehabilitation activity requirement.

He will also continue to be placed on the sex offenders register for a further ten years and must adhere to a sexual harm prevention order for a similar period.

“If you mess up then it’s very likely you will go to prison,” said Recorder Turner.

“It is very likely you will not get another opportunity. You have come within a whisker of going to custody today.”
