RTD partners with Lyft in mobile ticketing app
Riders of RTD will be able to purchase mass transit fares through the Lyft app, in a first-of-its-kind program for Lyft customers.
RTD, Lyft and Masabi, an international “fare payments platform” provider, are teaming up to launch the mobile ticketing app, the first time Lyft customers will be able to purchase mass transit tickets anywhere, said Laurie Huff, an RTD spokeswoman.
RTD customers can already buy mobile app tickets through Uber, Transit App and RTD.
Lyft scooters was launched in Denver in 2018, and now Lyft riders will be able to purchase RTD fares directly with their app as the program rolls out over the coming weeks, according to an RTD news release. In Denver, 58% of Lyft customers report using a Lyft service — shared rides, bikeshare systems, electric scooters — to get to or from a mass transit stations.
“To purchase fares within the Lyft app, Denver customers can look for Transit on the Lyft app homescreen, where they can search and compare routes, purchase multiple fares using any credit or debit payment method currently enabled in Lyft, and save unused tickets for up to 45 days,” the news release said.
RTD tickets cost the same within the Lyft app as they do using existing options.
“During this unprecedented time when the transit industry and the world are living in a constant state of flux, ventures like this one allow RTD to meet the needs and expectations of our customers,” said Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Debra A. Johnson in the release. “Today’s announcement now makes it possible for our customers to plan and pay for travel in one place, a fact that we know is of the highest value to those we serve.”
Lyft app users will also be able to identify nearby bus and rail connections in addition to Lyft vehicles and scooters.
“We’re excited to strengthen partnerships with local transportation agencies like RTD in support of our shared goal to reduce traffic, cut carbon emissions and make transportation more equitable,” said Patrick Quintana, a general manager with in Denver.
All of RTD’s in-app ticketing collaborations are made possible through Masabi, which has offices in Denver, New York, London, and Cluj, Romania.
