It’s the modest-looking three-bedroom home with a surprising back-garden feature that has so far failed to make a splash in the property market.

Seemingly average from the front, the detached house, located less than a mile from the centre of Basingstoke, Hants, has an outdoor swimming pool round the back.

But when the house, on Shooters Way, came up for auction earlier this month, even its unique selling point couldn’t tempt buyers to splash out.

The property, which was sold for £325,000 in November, was listed at a starting price of £250,000 when it was put up for auction by estate agents Barnard Marcus.

But it only reached a final bid of £274,000 at the recent auction, which expired on February 3.

The property (pictured on Google Earth with the swimming pool in the back), which was sold for £325,000 in November, was listed at a starting price of £250,000 when it was put up for auction by estate agents Barnard Marcus

As this was lower than the minimum bid limit, therefore the property was unsold. It’s not clear if and when the property will be put back up for auction. 

The detached home is located on a normal, suburban street in Basingstoke and has two bathrooms, a modern kitchen-diner and lounge. It also has a drive-way with a lock-up garage.

But the secret feature is revealed when prospective buyers look outside.

The property, which has a price estimate of around £300,000 according to Zoopla, is situated off Queen Mary Avenue and is around a 15 minute walk from the centre of Basingstoke

The now-expired listing reads: ‘An extensive range of shopping amenities are available locally within Basingstoke town centre lying to the south west.
