Boris “Bozo” Johnson’s private secretary arranged a lockdown-busting drinks party in the garden at No.10, a leaked email appears to show.
Martin Reynolds sent it to more than 100 Downing Street employees asking them to “bring your own booze” for an evening gathering, ITV reported.
Mr Reynolds said they should “make the most of the lovely weather” – despite England being under tough Covid-19 restrictions in May 2020.
The PM imposed England’s first lockdown in March 2020 and it was not until June 1 that groups of up to six were allowed to meet outdoors. The event in Mr Reynolds’ email is said to have taken place on May 20.
Last night the Met said: “The Metropolitan Police Service is aware of widespread reporting relating to alleged breaches of the Health Protection Regulations at Downing Street on 20 May 2020 and is in contact with the Cabinet Office.”
Allegations of the bash emerged last week when ex-aide Dominic Cummings said he had warned it was against the rules.
ITV claimed the PM attended with wife Carrie.
Asked yesterday whether the couple were at the party, Mr Johnson replied: “All that, as you know, is the subject of a proper investigation by Sue Gray.”
His official spokesman added: “There is an independent process going on to look into this, led by Sue Gray and I can’t comment further.”

The Cabinet Office official has confirmed she is investigating the May 20 event, and a May 15 gathering revealed in a photo showing the PM and staff at a table with cheese and wine.
Last night Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey said: “This is yet more evidence that while the vast majority of people were sticking to the rules, those in No.10 were breaking them.
“It is a kick in the teeth for everyone who has sacrificed so much during the pandemic.
"To add insult to injury, on the very same day the Culture Secretary said people could only meet in pairs outdoors, it seems Boris Johnson’s staff were holding a boozy party.”
Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner said: “If the PM knew about this party, attended this party and other parties that are alleged to have happened… it should be handed over to the police.
“Nobody is above the law.”
