Teammates of footy star caught up in gay porn scandal speak out

‘We’ve got your back’: Teammates of footy star caught up in gay porn saga rally behind him after his secret was exposed – as tactics used to lure him in to same-sex tryst are revealed

  • Kurt Capewell’s teammates have spoken out in support of the Panther’s star
  • A gay porn video involving the 27-year-old from 2013 surfaced yesterday
  • Other young men have said they were also duped by the porn company involved

Teammates of Kurt Capewell have rallied around the Penrith Panthers star after a porn film surfaced of the utility player engaged in a sex act with another man.

The clip of the 27-year-old hardman was recorded in 2013 when he was working as a carpenter, playing local footy, and struggling for cash.

Capewell said he’s lived with the video hanging over him for a number of years and ultimately knew it would come back to haunt him.

Since the story broke, other young men have spoken out claiming the same adult film company used ‘lies, deceit and manipulation’ to get them on camera.

Capewell messaged his Penrith Panthers teammates on Monday to give them the ‘heads up’ about the X-rated video leaked on the internet.

But those that know him best have come out in support following the sex scandal, calling him ‘brave’ and making it clear ‘we’ve got your back’.

The video was made after Capewell, then 20, responded to an ad to make money doing a photo shoot for a sports clothing and underwear company

Capewell said he was ‘young and naive’ at the time, and takes full responsibility for what happened

Panther’s winger Josh Mansour told the Sydney Morning Herald all the playing group have let him know they’re with him.

‘It was super brave of him to come forward, I was shocked when I first found out, but I was immediately worried about his welfare … I didn’t want him to do anything stupid,’ he said.

While Capewell may be embarrassed about what transpired in his younger days, Masour said the players don’t care about anything but him.

‘He’s got his life in order, he’s a guy who always helps his mates, and we just want to help him move past this. That’s all we can do.’

Penrith second-rower Liam Martin said there was ‘no questioning from the boys’.

‘We didn’t know his circumstances from eight years ago. We were all like, “yeah mate, we’ve got your back”.’

His teammates weren’t the only ones signing the praises of Capewell.

His proud parents Darryl and Lyn told Daily Mail Australia their son would be relieved that he no longer had to hide from the footage, after years of being a ‘mental wreck’.

Mrs Capewell said her son was ‘the victim here’. The parents had been aware of the video since shortly after it was filmed.

‘We’ve known about it. He’s lived with it, he’s definitely a victim. He made a silly mistake as a young fella and he’s had to live with it,’ Mr Capewell added.

‘It will be a relief to get it off his shoulders.

‘They clearly groom people pretty well. He’s usually a pretty level headed boy, but he has been a mental wreck for seven years – it’s a big burden.

‘He’s been feeling the pressure these last few weeks but now it’s out we’ve just got to look after him.’

Capewell, who does not identify as gay, didn’t know it was a gay porn film he was shooting.

Capewell (second from left, pictured with his parents and three brothers) told his parents about the x-rated incident shortly after the shoot

‘Bit hard to put the full story into words but I was broke and doing some modelling, then I got talked into doing a porno. Unknown to me but it turned out they put a bloke on the other side of the wall,’ he wrote in a text message to his teammates, the Daily Telegraph reported.

‘I’m terribly embarrassed and ashamed even though it happened when I was so young.

‘It’s something I’ve been dealing with for the past 8 years behind closed doors and I know you will all have my back and stand by me moving forward.’

Since the video went viral, other young men have spoken out claiming they were also duped by the porn company.

‘We weren’t told explicitly, “We’re going to get you to take your clothes off and have sex with another man on camera”. But that’s what it was,’ Callum (not his real name), 30, told news.com.

Capewell holds the State of Origin shield aloft as he celebrates with family and friends after his Queensland side won the series last month

The State of Origin star sent a text message to his Penrith teammates on Wednesday, giving them a ‘heads up’ about the video circulating online

Capewell sent this text to his Penrith Panthers teammates after the video resurfaced

He was paid between $250 and $350 for an hour of ‘modelling’ in a Gold Coast high rise.

‘At that point in my life, I was heavily and chronically depressed. I was desperate for cash. I do definitely recall thinking, “I’m not comfortable and I want to abort” but being an anxiety-ridden person I didn’t think I could,’ he said.

‘They present what you’re going to be doing in an innocent, non-harmful way. They say you’re going to get money, we’re going to take photos of you. It escalates from there and once you’re in the room, you’ve got the foot in the door, the reality of the situation becomes clearer.’

Like Capewell, the video that Callum shot still remains online.

He claims the porn producer’s tactics involve ‘lies, deceit and manipulation’.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to to the porn site for comment.

The company’s website claims is ‘not a gay porn site’, rather it offers ‘the best amateur straight boys’.
