Urgent Doritos Tangy Cheese crisps recall over allergy fears

Crisp giant Walkers have issued an urgent recall notice for their popular Tangy Cheese flavour Doritos.

The triangular treats contain soya, but due to an oversight the additive is not mentioned one the packaging.

Allergy to soya beans, is surprisingly common. It often begins in bottle-fed babies as a reaction to the presence of soya in formula milk. Although most children outgrow the allergy, a minority still suffer the allergy as adults.

In some rare cases the reaction can be life-threatening but for most, the symptoms are an unpleasant tingling in the mouth, itchy skin, stomach problems such as diarrhoea and vomiting, or swollen lips.

The Food Standards Agency has issued an alert warning customers about the potentially serious error.

A statement on the FSA’s website says: "Walkers Snack Foods is recalling Doritos Tangy Cheese as a precautionary measure because it contains soya which is not accurately declared on the label.

"This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya.

"If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to soya, do not eat it."
