'Woke' Google bosses ban staff from using terms including 'man hours'

‘Woke’ Google bosses ban staff from using terms including ‘man hours’, ‘you guys’, ‘blacklist’ and ‘chubby’ in inclusive language dossier

  • Other banned words and phrases include ‘man hours’, ‘crazy’ and ‘mad’

Google bosses have been accused of catering to the woke brigade by sending out a new ‘inclusive language dossier’ that asks UK staff to stop using common colloquialisms such as ‘you guys’, ‘blacklist’ and ‘chubby’.

The tech behemoth has included several alternative phrases in their new guide which includes changing ‘man hours’ to ‘person hours.’

Other terms in the firing line include ‘whitelist’, ‘Blackhole’, ‘blacklist’ and ‘black box’.

And further changes to the way in which Google expects its staff to speak are no longer using the word ‘chubby’ and to refrain from describing things as ‘crazy, bonkers or mad’.

The new guidance has already been publicly blasted in the political sphere with Conservative MP Nigel Mills telling the Sun newspaper the whole thing was ‘woke nonsense.’

Google has sent out a dossier to staff asking them to refrain from using the following words

He said: ‘This is just woke nonsense. I don’t know where people find the time to come up with this sort of thing.

‘Who cares? We should not be ditching phrases and words used for a generation just because some snowflakes might get impacted.’

Meanwhile a Google employee told the paper that staff had ignored the guide and focused on getting on with their jobs.

They revealed: ‘We’re much too busy to be worried about whether some totally harmless phrase that’s been used for years might upset someone, somewhere.’

Google has said its dossier only provided ‘editorial guidelines for writing clear and consistent Google-related developer documentation’.

MailOnline has reached out to Google for more information on the new guidelines.
