Woman, 43, dies and girl, 16, fights for life after devastating fire wrecks home

A 43-year-old woman has died and a 16-year-old girl is in hospital fighting for her life after a fire rippled through their family home, police said.

West Midlands Police force confirmed one woman was pronounce dead at the scene after officers were called to a house fire on Beacon Road, Sedgley on Saturday May 8.

Firefighters battled the blaze as a 49-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were rushed to hospital.

The man has since been released with minor injuries but the girl remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Detective Inspector Carla Thompson of West Midlands Police said the force is "working with the fire service to determine" the cause of the fire.

Ms Thompson urged anyone with information about the fire to get in touch and said that the family of the decease is being supported by specially trained officers.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the woman at this difficult time who are being supported by specialist officers."
