The Polish woman claiming to be Madeleine McCann "has a price on her head" and is being whisked to a safe house, according to the private investigator probing her claims.

Julia Wendell, 21, went viral after revealing she thinks she is the girl from Leicestershire who went missing in Portugal in 2007.

She shared "evidence" to support her claims and amassed over 1million followers on Instagram before her account was taken down.

Private investigator and self-professed medium Dr Fia Johansson, who previously aided police on missing persons cases in the US, has travelled to Poland to visit Julia and look into her claims.

In an Instagram post over the weekend, Dr Johansson said her team had been alerted to "a severe and credible death threat", and that there was a "price on her head".

She said: "The death threats started on Snapchat, then went pretty fast to Instagram and also Facebook accounts, with a picture of Julia and a prize, saying: 'If someone kills her, they'll get that prize.'

"Again, police in Poland are taking it very seriously at this moment. Very, very seriously. And they are also communicating with other countries related to those accounts.

"At this moment Julia is safe and secure."

Speaking to RadarOnline, Dr Johansson further revealed Julia is being whisked to a safe house.

“I just want to make sure she is in a safe place until we actually figure out exactly where and how we are going to conduct the DNA tests,” she said.

“I do not want to disclose the location because I don’t want people to come after her and basically try to harm her.”

And today Julia appeared in what looked to be an airport as she told people to "stay tuned".

Dr Johansson previously said three people had posed as friends of the McCanns online in a bid to lure Julia to a hotel.

RadarOnline also reports her Instagram was taken down following one particular death threat that came with a €300,000 (£266,000) bounty.

It later proved to be "group of young girls" pulling a prank but it left Julia understandably shaken.

Julia has claimed she has a speck in her eye like Madeleine, says she was abused by a German paedophile who looks like someone who was once a suspect in Madeleine's disappearance, and allegedly overheard her mum admit to "taking" her.

Her parents are understood to be refusing to take a DNA test and have denied her claims.
