Woman falls asleep on train to Edinburgh and wakes up to find man sitting NAKED next to her – as police launch hunt

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman fell asleep on a train and woke up to a man sitting naked next to her.

The woman was travelling on a service between Polmont and Edinburgh Waverley on Thursday, April 20. 

CCTV footage of the incident was captured by police. The person responsible has been described by police as a white male, aged between 65 and 70, at 5′ 6” tall with short grey hair and a stubbly beard. 

A statement from the British Transport Police reads: ‘On 20 April at 7.21am a woman was on the train when she fell asleep. When she woke up a man was sitting next to her naked.

The passenger incident occurred on an early morning service between the stations of Polmont and Edinburgh (Waverley station pictured)

He later put on jogging bottoms and a t-shirt before leaving the train at Edinburgh Waverley.

The man is described as white, medium/slim build. He was wearing black joggers, a black t-shirt and black walking boots.’

A report from Transport Scotland found that one in three women had concerns for their safety when travelling on public transport. 

The report’s 10 recommendations include a review of staff training on their own safety and how to support and protect passengers, as well as the development of credible and accessible information and guidance on reporting incidents that do occur. 

Scottish Transport Minister Jenny Gilruth said: ‘This is simply not acceptable in 21st century Scotland.’
