Woman found dead in charity bin had ‘car packed full of items to donate’

A 43-year-old woman found dead in a charity bin had a car packed full of items she wanted to donate, including a "love me" teddy bear.

The woman's body was discovered stuck halfway in the bin just after 7am in the Stockland Burleigh Head suburb on the Gold Coast of Australia on Monday, April 5.

Queensland Police quickly ruled out any suspicious circumstances and the woman's death was likely a case of "misadventure," the force said.

Superintendent Rhys Wildman said it appears as though the woman attempted to either remove or put in some items from the bin and was "caught" in the mechanism of the door.

He urged people to be careful of the bins as they’re designed with a "one-way" system in mind.

Police found the woman's car parked just next to the bin, which was full of items she had hoped to donate to charity.

Items included a brown teddy bear that held a heart saying "love me," unwanted clothes and a pair of roller skates.

She also appeared to have several items in the car including a fluffy jacket and black boots.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service were able to retrieve the woman's body after cutting a hole in the side of the bin.

A number of photos were taken from inside the charity bin, which helped police rule out any suspicious circumstances.

Police will now prepare a report for the coroner.

Mr Wildman warned: "It is what we class as a death by misadventure.

"It appears as though a 43-year-old woman has attempted to attain or remove some items from those charity bins.

"She has unfortunately appeared to have been caught in the door mechanism while she was attempting to retrieve some of those items and has unfortunately passed away."
