Many of us have embarrassed ourselves at school when accidentally calling our teachers "mum" or "dad".

But unfortunately for Sky News presenter Mark Austin, the moment he suffered a similar slip of the tongue was caught on live television.

Even experienced newsreaders like Mark will fall victim to an awkward blunder once in a while, but we're pretty sure forget this one for a while as it's gone viral on social media.

Austin appeared on The News Hour with Mark Austin this week and was introducing an expert due to give viewers a breakdown of the Daniel Khalife case.

21-year-old terror suspect Khalife, who was caught and arrested on Saturday (September 9), had been the subject of a nation-wide manhunt at the time.

But before Austin and expert Danny Shaw started chatting about the case, the presenter accidentally confused his name and called him "daddy".

"Let’s bring in policing commentator Danny Shaw, who joins us now," he announced before swinging around in his chair to face the interviewee.

But Austin put his foot in it when he continued: "Good evening, daddy," before swiftly correcting himself, saying: "Danny,".

He then added: "Thank you for being with us," before moving on with the segment like a professional.

The host managed to brush over his mistake and neither men addressed the slip-up during the segment, but viewers couldn't help giggling about it on social media.

"I could watch Mark Austin saying hello to his Daddy all day," one joked on X, formerly Twitter.

A second commented: "Mark Austin just called this man “Daddy” during the man hunt coverage on Sky News,"

Another said: "Not Mark Austin calling someone daddy instead of Danny on Sky News."
