{"id":85638,"date":"2023-09-20T02:52:31","date_gmt":"2023-09-20T02:52:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebritytidings.com\/?p=85638"},"modified":"2023-09-20T02:52:31","modified_gmt":"2023-09-20T02:52:31","slug":"woman-who-conned-35000-in-hollywood-scam-told-to-pay-back-cash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebritytidings.com\/world-news\/woman-who-conned-35000-in-hollywood-scam-told-to-pay-back-cash\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman who conned \u00a335,000 in Hollywood scam told to pay back cash"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Woman who conned family in \u00a335,000 bogus Hollywood actress fraud told to pay back the cash<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ann Dunlop claimed associate was being lined-up for huge contracts and was mingling with likes of Leonardo DiCaprio\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Court was told of lifestyle including \u2018champagne on tap\u2019 at 60th birthday party\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A woman who conned her family in a \u00a335,000 bogus Hollywood actress fraud has been told to pay back the cash.<\/p>\n<p>Ann Dunlop claimed a woman she knew was being lined up for million pound contracts.<\/p>\n<p>The 68-year-old convinced brother David Bunton, 51, to hand the woman cash to help her make the breakthrough.<\/p>\n<p>She claimed the woman was mingling with A-listers such as Leonardo Di Caprio and Beyonce\u00a0as well as being managed by US entertainment executive Irving Azoff.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/20\/00\/75611675-12537349-Ann_Dunlop_at_Glasgow_Sheriff_Court_on_trial_for_obtaining_money-a-2_1695166233101.jpg\" height=\"444\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Ann Dunlop at Glasgow Sheriff Court on trial for obtaining money from her brother David Bunton on the pretext of furthering a woman she knows showbiz career<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/20\/00\/75611673-12537349-Anne_Dunlop_said_there_were_plans_to_meet_Beyonce_pictured_above-a-1_1695166233101.jpg\" height=\"489\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Anne Dunlop claimed the woman was mingling with A-listers such as Beyonce<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/20\/00\/75611677-12537349-David_Bunton_at_his_sisters_trial_Glasgow_Sheriff_Court-a-3_1695166233117.jpg\" height=\"496\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>David Bunton at Glasgow Sheriff Court\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dunlop, of Beauly, Inverness-shire, also span a web of lies to her sister Jean and her husband Steve Allan.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Allan believed Dunlop and the woman had \u2018Champagne on tap\u2019 at the plush London\u00a0home they shared.<\/p>\n<p>Dunlop later requested he and his wife pay her and the woman\u2019s gas and council tax bills as she did not have enough money.<\/p>\n<p>First offender Dunlop was found guilty last month of defrauding her family a total of \u00a335,368 at Glasgow Sheriff Court.<\/p>\n<p>Sheriff Kevin McCarron said: \u2018I\u2019m driven to the conclusion that what she was telling her family was a work of fiction worthy of every one of the screenwriters or playwrights mentioned in this case.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It is clear she led her family down a merry dance through this episode.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018She perpetrated a pretence that was clearly false to everyone.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Sheriff McCarron deferred sentencing for 12 months and told her to pay back the cash to her family.<\/p>\n<p>The court heard the woman had appeared in a non-speaking role in a BBC period drama as well as a TV show staring comedian Noel Fielding.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bunton &#8211; a chief executive of a life science company &#8211; was approached by Dunlop and the woman in March 2016 after he sold his business.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that he handed over \u00a35,000 to the pair in order for the actress to \u2018build her career\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bunton told the court that he was informed by Dunlop that the woman was being represented by Irving Azoff.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u2018There was talk about meeting Beyonce and Jay Z&#8230;movies with Quentin Tarantino and Michael Keaton.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018She went to the Oscars to make various connections.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Azoff was her manager, she met Leonardo Di Caprio and she was working on promotional activity for Chanel which would go alongside her movies.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The family were also told the woman was set to star in a movie version of the musical Wicked directed by Tim Burton.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bunton said that he was unaware of the figure the woman was to receive but believed it was millions.<\/p>\n<p>He handed over a further \u00a327,000 to the pair as he heard that Dunlop and her husband who also lived with them were \u2018struggling\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>He also footed a bill for their council tax and gas.<\/p>\n<p>He was not paid back and his suspicions rose after the woman failed to appear in a Chanel Christmas advert in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Fears further heightened after he hired a private investigator to keep tabs on the woman.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u2018[We wanted] To establish if there was a relationship with Irving Azoff and if it was true that she was an actor and was there any basis to what we had been told in previous months.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Redmond Harris asked: \u2018What do you know about the woman\u2019s acting career?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The witness replied: \u2018From internet searching, there was no career to my knowledge.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He and Dunlop\u2019s brother-in-law Mr Allan, 66, claimed he was under the impression Dunlop and the woman were living a \u2018movie type of lifestyle in London\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Allan recalled visiting the pair at their Notting Hill home for Dunlop\u2019s 60th birthday party.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u2018I had never seen so many bottles of Champagne&#8230;the Champagne was on tap there.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Mr Allan stated that the woman shopped at Harrod\u2019s and went to handbag stores in London.<\/p>\n<p>He paid for Dunlop\u2019s \u00a3600 gas bill in November 2016 before transferring \u00a31,000 of his overdraft to her as \u2018she said she didn\u2019t have enough money\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed Dunlop told him that he would be repaid in two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Allan added: \u2018The explanation was there was a large sum of money in Coutts Bank but it was put in an investment fund and it was not available immediately but it would be sorted out.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He said he was later told by Dunlop that Tim Burton had collected the woman\u2019s bank cards and put them in a safe.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Harris asked about his relationship with his wife\u2019s family before the bank transfers.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u2018I thought I had married into the Waltons.
