Sir Michael Gambon, who has died aged 82, was known for a number of on-screen roles including Professor Albus Dumbledore in six of the eight Harry Potter films.<\/p>\n
In what could’ve been another major credit for the star was 1969’s James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, however he was not interested in taking on the lead role.<\/p>\n
In 2016, Michael recalled meeting Bond producer Cubby Broccoli, following Sean Connery’s exit, about starring in the hit franchise.<\/p>\n
Revealing what happened, he told The Independent: \u201cI said I didn\u2019t want the part because I\u2019m not like him [Bond].<\/p>\n
“I haven\u2019t got nice hair and I\u2019m a bit fat and he said, \u2018well, the present James Bond doesn\u2019t have any hair… it\u2019s a wig’. Nice man.\u201d<\/p>\n

More info<\/p>\n One of his last movies was in 2018 film King Of Thieves, alongside Michael Caine, Jim Broadbent and Ray Winstone.<\/p>\n He retired from stage acting in 2015 after struggling to remember his lines in front of a live audience, but acted on-screen until 2019.<\/p>\n Michael’s wife announced the news of his death aged 82 on Thursday.<\/p>\n She said in a statement: “We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon. Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia.<\/p>\n “Michael was 82. We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love.”<\/p>\n Tributes have flooded in for Michael from the likes of Jeremy Clarkson, Blake Harrison and Jared Harris.<\/p>\n The Grand Tour star wrote on X, previously known as Twitter: “I\u2019m so sad to hear that Michael Gambon has died.<\/p>\n “He was hugely amusing, and such a tremendous guest, we even named a corner after him.”<\/p>\n The presenter was referring to the time Michael drove a Suzuki Liana as part of the ‘reasonably priced car’ challenge on Top Gear and nearly flipped over at the last corner.<\/p>\n
