WHILE people may assume that filling your house with IKEA furniture will end up looking boring, one DIY whizz has proven that this couldn't be further from the truth.<\/p>\n

Chrystal revealed the "genius" way she upcycled her IKEA Kallax bookshelf, which retails at \u00a345, into a super stylish storage bench – and it's little wonder she's been inundated with praise. <\/p>\n

And for anyone hoping to follow in her savvy footsteps, you're in luck…because she's revealed exactly how she did it. <\/p>\n

In a clip shared to TikTok (@chrystalspalace), she explains how she snapped up her IKEA bookshelf for free on Facebook Marketplace.<\/p>\n

"I bought these furniture legs off Amazon," she explains.<\/p>\n

"I got 18 in total because the shelf is quite big.<\/p>\n

"Then I drilled holes into the anchors using my 10mm drill bit and my mallet."<\/p>\n

She goes on to say how she did this eight times and then hand-screwed in all eight legs, before adding furniture pads to each one.<\/p>\n

"Then I turned it over and began cutting up some wood for the sides," she says. <\/p>\n

"I really wanted to build a ledge to keep the cushion in and also to make it look like an actual bench.<\/p>\n

Chrystal explains how she used wood glue to attach the wood and 50mm nails with my Ryobi nailer to hold it in place.<\/p>\n

"I doubled it up for extra volume and added it to the sides too," she continues.<\/p>\n

"After that I used my circular saw to cut down some 3mm MDF."<\/p>\n

The DIY whizz then notes that she moved onto the foam for the cushion.<\/p>\n

"I cut it down using an electric butter knife," she says.<\/p>\n

"This was so satisfying – and I stapled some sheepskin fabric to the MDF that I just cut using my staple gun."<\/p>\n

Finally, she added some hinges for some doors using inserts she got from Ikea, handles which she spraypainted gold and wrapped the sides with peel and stick wallpaper.<\/p>\n

Delighted with her handiwork, Chrystal enthuses: "I'm absolutely in love with it….I feel like it has such a luxe vibe and I can't wait to use it during my house warming."<\/p>\n

Alongside the post, she penned: "This bench is probably the COMFIEST thing I\u2019ve made. <\/p>\n

The post has since gone viral, racking up a whopping 72k views and several comments from very<\/em> impressed social media users.<\/p>\n

"A diy babe!!!" enthused one.<\/p>\n

A second penned: "You are tooooooooo talented I swearrrrr – I'm tryna be like youuuu!"<\/p>\n

A third noted: "This is absolute genius!"<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a fourth wrote: "You are giving me inspiration for my home."<\/p>\n
