CONOR MCGREGOR is "going through a mid-life crisis" that will derail his long-awaited return to the octagon, a UFC lightweight has claimed.<\/p>\n

The UFC's poster boy, 35, hasn't set foot inside the cage since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier nearly two-and-a-half years ago but has been matched up against Michael Chandler for his comeback fight.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

But his eagerly-anticipated return, which was announced in February, has been overshadowed by his absence from the USADA drug testing pool and his partying ways.<\/p>\n

And nothing the Irishman<\/span> has shown on social media or said in recent interviews<\/span> has convinced fellow lightweight Grant Dawson that he will in fact fight again.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think he\u2019s coming back,\u201d the No.10-ranked Dawson told MMA<\/span> Fighting. \u201cI don\u2019t think he\u2019s fighting.<\/p>\n

"I think he\u2019s going through a mid-life crisis right now."<\/p>\n

Dawson, 29, believes McGregor has struggled mentally without fighting, so much so that he reckons he's questioning his "purpose" in life.<\/p>\n

He continued: "We\u2019re going kind of deep here but the thing that makes people happy isn\u2019t chasing happiness, it\u2019s chasing purpose.<\/p>\n

"Conor used to have a purpose, and I believe Conor doesn\u2019t have a purpose anymore, and that\u2019s why his life is kind of going to s***.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe just doesn\u2019t know what he wants to do. He doesn\u2019t need to do anything. He doesn\u2019t have to do anything.<\/p>\n

"He\u2019s just in this point where he doesn\u2019t know what his purpose in life is and I think that\u2019s he\u2019s so all over the place.<\/p>\n

"\u2018Oh, I\u2019m going to box, oh I\u2019m going to do bare-knuckle, oh I\u2019m going to fight Michael Chandler, oh I\u2019m going to do The Ultimate Fighter.\u2019<\/p>\n

"It\u2019s just bouncing between what he wants to do. I\u2019m retired again, now I\u2019m not retired again.<\/p>\n

"I just think he needs to find some purpose outside of MMA if he really wants to be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

McGregor was due to throw down with Chandler this year but the bout ended up being pushed until 2024 due to his absence from the USADA pool.<\/p>\n

But the Dubliner hinted this week that he's back in the pool – which he must be in for at least six months before he's eligible to compete – writing on Instagram<\/span> early on Thursday morning: "Find my targets.<\/p>\n

"Hit them. F*** the consequences. You\u2019re going down. This is fighting. Sparring day with slick @grozdevnikolay.<\/p>\n
