A woman has died after being swept away as Storm Babet rages into its third day with fears it could reach its most dangerous point yet.<\/p>\n
The body of the\u00a057-year-old was swept into the Water\u00a0of Lee in Glen Esk, Angus, eastern Scotland where a red weather alert is in place – with warnings Scotland could see its heaviest rainfall in history.<\/p>\n
The storm has brought winds of up to 70mph in some parts of the UK, with more than a metre of rain leading to fears entire towns and villages will be cut off and left underwater.<\/p>\n
It comes as Angus Council issued another plea for residents around Brechin to evacuate as some refused to leave their homes.<\/p>\n
Residents of more than 400 properties in the area have already been told to evacuate after fears that the River South Esk could burst its banks.<\/p>\n
Today, the storm is expected to barrel down the east of England before heading inland, with huge swathes of the country affected including Manchester, London, Portsmouth, Brighton and Norwich.<\/p>\n

If so, email cally.brooks@reachplc.com The\u00a057-year-old was swept into the Water\u00a0of Lee in Glen Esk, Angus, as Storm Babet battered parts of Scotland.<\/p>\n READ MORE: <\/strong> Terrifying Storm Babet video shows moment plane violently rocks trying to land<\/strong><\/p>\n The red weather warning came into effect at 6pm on Thursday, and runs until noon on Friday, with amber and yellow warnings also in place in other areas of the UK until Saturday.<\/p>\n London has a yellow warning for rain, while Nottingham and Manchester are on an amber alert.<\/p>\n In Scotland, there is an amber warning in place while areas of Perth and Dundee have a rare red warning in place due to flooding.<\/p>\n There are also warnings for 70mph winds in parts of Scotland.<\/p>\n Weather maps for Friday, October 20 show more rain is set to hit the UK.<\/p>\n On Saturday, snow is expected in parts of Scotland.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The council said that as well as about 335 properties in Brechin, an additional 87 households in the nearby villages of Tannadice and Finavon had been told to evacuate “for their own safety”.<\/p>\n People leaving their homes were urged to switch off the mains electricity and water supplies before they did so.<\/p>\n Rest centres were opened from 15:00 at Montrose Sports Centre and Brechin and Forfar community campuses.<\/p>\n People were asked to bring their own sleeping bags and any supplies and medications they will need.<\/p>\n
