The Met Office has issued 16-hour weather warnings for Storm Babet-ravaged Britain, with another day of flooding on the horizon for thousands of people.

A new yellow weather warning has told people to expect further flooding between 6pm today (Tuesday, October 24) and 10am tomorrow.

The warning covers dozens of areas for 16 hours, including London, where rain will fall “heavy at times” and “cause some flooding and disruption in a few places”.

The warning states: “Scattered showers will become more frequent and increasingly organised into a longer spell of rain through Tuesday evening before gradually clearing eastward during Wednesday morning.

“15 to 25mm of rain is expected fairly widely but there is a chance that 50 to 60mm could fall in a few places; these higher accumulations more likely across east Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey and west Kent.”

The warning states that the primary risks from the coming storms are to transport, especially rail and road services.

The Met Office advises that journey times on buses and trains will likely take longer during the warning hours, and spray and flooding may affect travel elsewhere.

Businesses and homes may also suffer from flooding, with the ground already saturated from nearly a week’s worth of rain prompted by Storm Babet.

Dozens of areas are currently included in the warning, primarily in the southeast, especially on the coast.

Warning areas include:
