A UNI grad has complained of her rude awakening to adulthood since securing her first 9-to-5 job that left crying over her lack of free time.

Marketing graduate, Brielle Asero, was in floods of tears as she told of her struggles with commuting into the office every day.

The change in lifestyle has left the TikToker tired and stressed out, with next to no time to do what she wants or needs when she eventually gets home.

In the 85 second clip uploaded to her TikTok account (@brielleybelly123), she reveals that she gets on a train at 7.30am and gets home at 6.15pm.

It left her asking followers who also have 9-to-5 jobs how they have time to live.

"How do you have friends? she asks in her video. "How do you have time for dating?"

Brielle also admitted to having no energy for anything and questioned the generic lifestyle.

She said: "I don’t have time to do anything and I’m so stressed out.

"I want to shower, eat my dinner and go to sleep," she adds. "I don’t have time or energy to cook my dinner either. I don’t have energy to work out – that's out the window.

"I’m so upset. The nine to five schedule in general is crazy."

Brielle was keen to note that it wasn’t her job she was having problems with, but the lifestyle of eight-hour work days.

“If it was remote you get off at 5 and you’re home, and everything’s fine,” Brielle said

In preparation for the backlash in the comments section, the video's caption read: "I'm also getting sick leave me alone I'm emotional OK I feel 12 and I'm scared of not having time to live".

Since uploading six days ago, there have been more than 13,000 comments left on the video.

However, a lot of people resonated with Brielle and her "valid" feelings.

One person said: "The 40 hour work week is beyond outdated and your feelings are totally valid"

Another added: "40 hour work week was designed with a homemaker to take care of house tasks. We need dual incomes now, so that’s not possible. No time for anything."

"I had a crisis when I got my first 9-5 job. Literally I couldn’t believe this was life," chimed a third.

But, of course, there were those who had no sympathy.

"Aww welcome to adulthood," teased one.

"Welcome to being a grownup," said another.

A third person added: "I’ve never worked less than 6 days a week 70-80 hours per week. I have three kids a mortgage, bills + weekend musician. Welcome to adulthood"

Speaking to The Independent, Brielle said that her video highlights a need for change in how society typically functions.

“I want to be able to talk for this next generation," she began. "And explain that a 40-hour work week plus commute is not necessary for productivity.

“I appreciate all the positive comments from other sympathetic workers and hope that more companies consider following in other countries’ footsteps in regards to the work week.

"Especially after so many people are used to being remote after Covid.”

</picture>RED MENACE
