A BEAUTY expert has revealed we’ve all been putting fake eyelashes on the wrong way.

Matt Newman, from New York City, is a hair stylist based in Los Angeles, the US, and often uses his social media channel to share his top tips and tricks from the beauty industry.

In a change to the usual hair-related content, Matt decided to tackle the topic of fake eyelashes.

He explained that most people attempt to put fake eyelashes on in a difficult position, by holding the mirror in one hand straight in front of their faces as they do it.

Placing the glue onto one of the lashes, he explained: “A stripper once told me when I did hair at a strip club…

“That if you really suck at putting on fake lashes, don’t hold the mirror in front of you and put the lash on [while] looking at the mirror.

“Instead, hold the mirror below your chin and put the lash on from above.”

After demonstrating the hack, he looked up and said: “Push it into place and we’re going to pick off the rogue glue when it dries.”

In the caption, he added: “The best fake lash beauty hack I ever learned”.

People were quick to comment on the post as one person wrote: “This is actually a great tip!”

That’s another common issue!”

A third posted: “My niece told me the same thing. I still have a tough time though..”

A fourth suggested: “I also put little anchor points! Take a Bobby pin/small back of brush, and put little dots along your lash line. Let it get a little tacky. Then apply”.

While a fifth added: “I used to be bad but then someone recommended waiting a couple seconds so the glue gets tacky and it's been easy since”.

According to Teen Vogue, the first step in applying eyelashes is to prep your natural ones first.

They recommended curling your lashes and applying mascara before going in with the fake ones.

It’s then recommended to put a thin line of glue to the lash with a cotton swab before waiting for the glue to get slightly dry.

Celebrity make-up artist Ricky Wilson told the publication: “This lets the formula dry enough to become tacky, preventing you from getting glue all over the place.”

I was on Rich House Poor House and was scared skint family would crash Porsche
