{"id":87683,"date":"2023-11-15T21:08:38","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T21:08:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebritytidings.com\/?p=87683"},"modified":"2023-11-15T21:08:38","modified_gmt":"2023-11-15T21:08:38","slug":"david-jason-looks-chipper-as-he-says-he-had-surgery-for-bionic-hip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebritytidings.com\/world-news\/david-jason-looks-chipper-as-he-says-he-had-surgery-for-bionic-hip\/","title":{"rendered":"David Jason looks chipper as he says he had surgery for &apos;bionic&apos; hip"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>&#8216;I am on the mend!&#8217;: David Jason, 83, looks chipper on ITV&#8217;s Lorraine as he reveals he underwent surgery to get a &#8216;bionic&#8217; hip fitted &#8211; after postponing Only Fools And Horses convention<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Only Fools actor told Lorraine he is &#8216;on the mend&#8217; following his operation\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sir David Jason looked chipper as he appeared on ITV&#8217;s Lorraine and gave a health update following hip surgery &#8211; revealing his &#8216;bionic&#8217; hip is &#8216;wonderful&#8217;.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The actor, 83,\u00a0who played Del Boy on the BBC&#8217;s &#8216;Only Fools&#8217; sitcom from 1981 to 2003, said\u00a0in August he needed to undergo an operation\u00a0to have a &#8216;bionic body part fitted&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The Only Fools and Horses convention was postponed to January next year amid his health scare before he confirmed his surgery had been &#8216;successful&#8217; and filmed a clip of himself dramatically discarding his crutches.<\/p>\n<p>Today the clip was played on Lorraine as he joined the show and spoke of his recovery.<\/p>\n<p>Asked how he is doing following his operation, he told the host &#8216;I am on the mend&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I am fine. I&#8217;m having a little trouble getting the muscles back because I was so infirm for two to three weeks as it were.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I wasn&#8217;t using the legs at all, that&#8217;s where I am at now, getting it back, doing some exercises. But the hip itself is wonderful.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/15\/12\/77828879-12752441-image-a-1_1700051390230.jpg\" height=\"493\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Sir David Jason, 83, appeared on Lorraine today and spoke of his recovery from surgery<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/15\/12\/77828871-12752441-image-a-2_1700051398443.jpg\" height=\"468\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Lorraine asked him if he was on the mend and he confirmed he is doing fine\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>David was on the\u00a0 ITV show to talk about book The Twelve Dels of Christmas: My Festive Tales from Life and Only Fools.<\/p>\n<p>He also touched upon details of his upcoming show, Touring Toolshed, with Jay Blades.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sir David previously shared a statement on his Facebook page about having to pull out of the planned Only Fools convention.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He wrote: &#8216;I am so very sorry for the disappointment and all the inconvenience it may cause but we are having to change the date of the forthcoming Only Fools and Horses Convention.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Unfortunately I have just been advised I need a new bionic body part fitted. I won&#8217;t tell you which part it is, or you will all want one!<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;And don&#8217;t worry it&#8217;s not being supplied by Monkey Harris, it&#8217;ll be the pukka gear.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>He added: &#8216;I really hope everyone will be able to make the new date January 13th and 14th.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We can all have something cushty to look forward to! These events are such an enjoyable celebration for myself and the rest of the &#8216;Only Fools&#8217; cast, and it is such a privilege to meet so many of you, but I want to do it with the smile on my face I always have had.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/15\/12\/77828873-12752441-image-a-3_1700051405941.jpg\" height=\"488\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m having a little trouble getting the muscles back because I was so infirm for two to three weeks as it were,&#8217; he said<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/15\/12\/77828877-12752441-image-a-4_1700051407631.jpg\" height=\"793\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The hip is &#8216;wonderful,&#8217; the 83-year-old actor said as he appeared on the ITV show today<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/15\/12\/74272897-12752441-Statement_He_gave_fans_the_update_on_his_health_in_a_statement_e-a-5_1700051413697.jpg\" height=\"672\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>He earlier gave fans the update on his health in a statement explaining why he couldn&#8217;t appear at the event<\/p>\n<p>Sir David signed off his statement: &#8216;Once again, please accept my sincere apologies as it was not a decision I took at all lightly and I hope that you understand my situation. All cushty wishes until then.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sir David has struggled with his health after a &#8216;seriously bad&#8217; battle with Covid in July 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The viral infection left him so frail he suffered a fall at his home in Ellesborough, Buckinghamshire, and told BBC Breakfast about his tumble &#8216;All the muscles weren&#8217;t working. I collapsed and I fell against the radiator. I was so weak, I couldn&#8217;t get up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I tried for about a quarter of an hour, trying all sorts of things to stand up so I could walk about.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;But in order to do that, I had to use my head.
