The outlet announced the news late on Tuesday evening, sharing an interview with the Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em> staple where he claimed he actually thought it was a \u201cjoke\u201d when he was honored with the position! He recalled:<\/p>\n

\u201cI was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I\u2019ve always been the bridesmaid!\u201d<\/p>\n

LOLz! Well, now it\u2019s your time to shine, you beautiful bride.<\/p>\n

He continued:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.\u201d<\/p>\n

But beyond his ego, he says he\u2019s \u201cglad it\u2019s happening at this point\u201d in his life, not only for the \u201crecognition,\u201d but also because it gives him \u201cthe platform to use it for something positive\u201d — specifically for The Dempsey Center<\/strong>, a cancer care and support center the 57-year-old founded in 2008 in honor of his late mother.<\/p>\n
