A mother ‘addicted to ink’ with more than 800 tattoos has vowed to stop going under the needle in order to get pregnant again – because she’s worried it could harm the baby.

Melissa Sloan, 46, from Powys, South Wales, has become known for her unique look – she claims to get new designs three times a week and even tattoos herself with her £120 ink gun she bought from Amazon.

However, as the mother-of-seven wants to try for baby number eight with her partner Luke, 56, she’s promised to put a stop to the obsession for now.

She told the Daily Star: ‘I won’t be having tattoos for about nine months. Well, you can have tattoos but I won’t be doing that. I just worry that it would harm the child, the baby that will be inside me. I’ll give up the smoking as well and I don’t drink.’

Although there is no clear answer on whether you should get a tattoo while pregnant, it’s generally advised against.

According to the American Pregnancy Association, the main concern is the risk of contracting an infection, such as Hepatitis B and HIV.

It’s a small risk but some tattoo ink contains heavy metals like mercury, arsenic, and lead which can pose a threat to a developing baby.

Melissa has previously claimed that she would never stop getting inked, despite health issues – however, this has all changed at the prospect of another child.

The tattoo fanatic admitted that prior to deciding to get pregnant again, she didn’t have sex for three years.

However, it’s now back on the agenda because her children kept pestering her for another sibling.

A pregnancy at 46 would involve health risks, but Melissa is optimistic that she won’t experience complications.

However, the tattoos have made her social life much more difficult and she has also struggled to find work.

She admitted: ‘I want to enjoy myself and go for a drink at the pub, but they won’t even let me in. I’m covered in tattoos, l get tattoos three times a week. I even do my own tattoos at home.’

Melissa recently attempted to start driving lessons, however she could not find an instructor who would take her on because they are so horrified by the mass of tattoos covering her face.

She claims one instructor was visibly shaking when she sat in his car and could barely look at her face.

Another couldn’t wait to get her out of his car he was so shocked at the sight of her heavily tattooed face.

Despite being called ‘Crayola’ on the school run and being uninvited from parties, Melissa is proud to be one of Britain’s most tattooed women.

She said her skin has already fallen off from tattoos that didn’t heal and has been left with scars. Until recently she vowed she would ‘never stop having tattoos until the end.’
