The Voice viewers were left stunned on Saturday night when a huge popstar from the 1990s auditioned for the show – but failed to get any of the mentors to turn for her.

Mariama Goodman, 44, found fame as one third of the girl group Honeyz in 1999 when she replaced founding member Heavenli Abdi.

During her time in the band, Honeyz racked up three Top 10 hit singles – Love of a Lifetime, Never Let You Down and Won't Take It Lying Down.

Their debut album Wonder No. 8 also included the hits Finally Found and End of the Line.

Mariama quit the band in August 2000 with Heavenli rejoining the group until they split a year later in 2001.

However, Mariama rejoined the group alongside Heavenli and Célena Cherry in 2013 to take part in ITV's The Big Reunion, with her and Célena still touring under the Honeyz name to this day.

Mariama also works as a midwife and said about going on the show: "I've always wanted to see how I would do with it being just me.

"It's a very different feeling than being surrounded by girls doing it with you. There's a bit more pressure when you're on your own."

Mariama blew the studio audience away with her rendition of Out Here on My Own by Irene Cara, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to get coaches Olly Murs, Anne-Marie, Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am to turn for her.

Olly said: "That was a beautiful song choice but I feel like in the middle she kind of lost her rhythm and where it was."

Tom agreed: "She was a good singer though."

Following her performance, Mariama said: "It was really nerve racking. As soon as I saw my daughter in the corner, it got to me.

"My voice broken a little bit and I knew, that was it. But I'm glad I showed my daughter it doesn't matter how scared you are, if you've got a passion, you go for it regardless."

Viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to react to Mariama's appearance.

One wrote: "She might be a midwife now, but she's FROM THE HONEYZ! Recognised her straight away!"

A second penned: "I’m sure these judges on #TheVoiceUk are hearing something different to me. The ones I think are good they ignore, and the ones that sound out of tune to me right from the start they love and turn around."

While a third added: "Ah man, no seat turns for Mariama from Honeyz" alongside crying emojis.
