A HAIRDRESSER has revealed the popular haircare products that could actually be causing more harm than good.

The cold weather often means out hair becomes more dry and brittle – leading us to smoother it in all sorts of treatments – but not all of them will fix your hair.

Mary, a hairdresser from the UK, said: "Stop using these products, they are ruining your hair."

First on the list was Olaplex as Mary insisted it won't fix your hair unless you have bleached it.

She explained: "Olaplex (no.3) will only benefit your hair if you have damage from bleaching your hair."

"Specifically formulated to repair the disulfide bonds (protein in hair) that get weakened over time from lifting pigment out of the hair."

The hair pro added that the costly product can fail to fix, and even make damage worse if your hair hasn't been bleached.

The next product was anti-dandruff shampoo which Mary claimed you shouldn't be using long-term.

She added that many people use this to get rid of dandruff when they actually have a dry scalp – and because of the stripping nature of the product, it can actually make dry skin worse.

Next, she recommended staying away from the Argon Oil of Morocco to keep locks shiny as it has insoluble silicone which can be difficult to wash out and cause product build up.

Lastly, Mary revealed she wasn't a fan of the cult-classic Tangle Teezer for brushing your hair.

"The teeth are way too short, really inflexible," she explained.

"If you drag this over a bunch of knots, unless you section your hair out properly, it just rips through the hair and in my opinion, really contributes to breakage overtime."

The hairdresser who goes by @thisgirldoeshair on TikTok has amassed over 19k followers and 200k likes on her haircare content.

People in the comments were quick to share their thoughts and ask for alternatives to use.

One person wrote: "Oh damn I use the Tangle Teezer all the time and do have quite a lot of damage, any other brush recommendations?"

Another commented: "I use the Tangle Teezer but I have the most knotty hair in the world and am literally at a loss as to what else to use!?"

"The Wet Brush," replied Mary.

"Olaplex KILLED my hair," penned a third.

Fabulous will pay for your exclusive stories.
