Amazon was last night embroiled in a row over selling clothing bearing an allegedly ‘anti-semitic’ message.

The online retail giant faced calls to remove T-shirts bearing the controversial slogan ‘From the River to the Sea Palestine will be free’.

Tory Party deputy chairman Lee Anderson told the Mail on Sunday: ‘It’s disgusting to see Amazon cash in off vile anti-semitic products.

‘When their own guidance says they prohibit the sale of items that promote, incite, or glorify hatred or religious intolerance, it begs the question why this merchandise has slipped the net.’

Mr Anderson added: ‘Amazon should read their own policies and take these products down immediately.’

He was joined by non-affiliated peer Lord Austin who also urged Amazon to take immediate action.

Lord Austin, who quit the party over handling of anti-semitism complaints while Jeremy Corbyn was leader, said: ‘This slogan calls for Israel to be wiped off the map, for the destruction of the world’s only Jewish state which would inevitably mean the murder of the Jewish people who live there, just as we saw with the barbaric atrocities of October 7.

‘They should remove this merchandise immediately.’

The slogan and chant has been used at pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the UK, with ‘from the river to the sea’ referring to land between the river Jordan, which borders eastern Israel, and the Mediterranean to the West.

And supporters deny that it is anti-semitic and is more a call for Palestinians to live in their own homeland.

However, last month, Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer insisted it was anti-semitic, adding: ‘I think that is extremely offensive.’

The T-shirts, by B & S Boutique, are featured on Amazon alongside other shirts and hoodies bearing the Palestinian flag.

Amazon was approached for comment.
