Argentina’s latest ploy to wrest the Falkland Islands away from British sovereignty has been revealed.<\/p>\n

Buenos Aires is cosying up to New Delhi in a bid to revive India’s support for decolonisation as the South American country ramps up its bid to snatch the South Atlantic archipelago from British sovereignty.<\/p>\n

Argentina is pushing the Asian giant into supporting negotiations over the disputed territory which is administered by the UK. A group made up of political representatives, diplomats and parliamentarians from India<\/span> met on Thursday (December 7), according to reports.<\/p>\n

In shocking remarks translated by Express.co.uk<\/span> from Argentine daily Infobae, Indian opposition MP and intellectual Shashi Tharoor is quoted as saying the Malvinas “should go back to Argentina or at least there should be constructive discussions to come to that final conclusion”.<\/p>\n

Argentines and supporters of the South American country’s claim use the term Las Malvinas to describe the Falklands.<\/p>\n

A former British colony itself, India was the first country to chair the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonisation.<\/p>\n

Shazia Ilmi, national spokesperson for India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, told Spanish international news agency EFE that India has given its backing for the start of talks over the Falklands’ future.<\/p>\n

Hugo Javier Gobbi, Argentina’s ambassador to India told EFE the group will maintain awareness of the Falklands issue and show his country’s gratitude to India “for always supporting Argentina on this issue”.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, at a graduation ceremony for Argentinian Armed Forces officers, the country’s Minister of Defence Jorge Taiana said Buenos Aires continues to use diplomatic channels to repeat its claim that the “occupation” by the United Kingdom is “illegal and illegitimate”.<\/p>\n
