Former Strictly Come Dancing stars Janette Manrara and Aljaz Skorjanec have hit back at criticism they’ve received about their parenting ways as they discussed the need for thick-skin on social media and how speaking out on shamed parenting has helped others. The professional dancers became first-time parents back in July to “miracle” baby daughter Lyra after previously struggling to conceive.

Just six weeks after her birth, Janette threw herself back into presenting on BBC Morning Live, a move which caused controversy at the time. While she admitted to “mum-guilt” at the the time, Janette, 40, expressed their importance of not judging which many of her 599,000 followers have thanked her for.

While it’s inevitable to receive some trolling on social media, the dancer said she has developed a thick skin and such negativity doesn’t faze her. She told Express.co.uk: “I read the comments sometimes that people put down and I don’t really care to be honest. It doesn’t faze me.”

After speaking out about the situation online, the mother-of-one said many other mums had approached her thanking her for standing up to mum-shamers, as they had too felt judged in some way. She added: “That makes me really happy to know that at least we’ve started a conversation for less shaming and more acceptance for different ways of parenting that are all as good for the baby as any other.”

When Janette returned to work, Aljaz gave fans an insight into him adapting to fatherhood as he adoringly cradled Lyra while watching his wife on the television. The cute picture was praised by many of his followers, but some were quick to slam the way he was holding her.

I never judge anyone on how they live their life or raising their kids, and I don’t expect anyone to judge mine.”

He added: “As soon as you start posting things about your private life, people tend to get involved and give their opinions. I never really put too much attention or thinking into it. For some people that’s the most exciting thing they’ve done all day, write something bad on Instagram. Life is way too busy.”

Don’t Miss…
