Cindy destroyed by devastating death tragedy after returning to EastEnders
Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) was left in tears in EastEnders on Monday (August 28), rocked by a devastating death just shortly after setting foot in Walford for the first time in 25 years.
The icon and legend staged a comeback ‘from the dead’ earlier this year, with surprise scenes revealing that she’d been living in witness protection for a quarter of a century after turning informant on her cellmate in the nineties.
With Jackie Ford, the criminal she was in hiding from, having died, the time had come for Cindy to return to Walford, with scenes last week seeing her set foot in London for the first time in decades.
Having missed out on the opportunity to visit daughter Lucy’s (Hetti Bywater) grave when she died nine years ago, she wasted little time in doing so on Monday when Peter (Thomas Law) suggested that it might be nice to pay tribute to his sister.
Lucy, as fans will recall, was killed off during EastEnders’ 30th anniversary celebrations in 2014 in a shocking whodunit storyline, with the killer being revealed as none other than Bobby Beale.
Upon setting her sights on Lucy’s grave, Cindy broke down in tears, telling her son that she’s often wanted to come visit her daughter, but was unable to do so given that her life was on the line.
Peter, meanwhile, was tasked by dad Ian (Adam Woodyatt) to get Cindy to return to France, where they have been living together, but Cindy had no intention of leaving, wanting to get reacquainted with the place she used to call home as she made a beeline for 45 Albert Square.
Cue the drama.
Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), like fans across the nation, was stunned by Cindy’s sudden return, with the two wasting little time in getting into a good old-fashioned EastEnders scrapping match, with harsh insults and slaps exchanged left, right and centre.
The definition of classic EastEnders.
But despite the animosity, the two former foes ultimately bonded over the loss of Lucy, given that neither of them were present when she tragically died and therefore they found some common ground.
Cindy’s attention, however, was soon elsewhere as she set her sights on ex-lover George Knight (Colin Salmon) at the close of the episode in question.
It’s about to kick off!
EastEnders continues Tuesday August 29 at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
