The Big Bang Theory star reveals lung cancer diagnosis despite never smoking
Actress Kate Micucci has shared that she recently underwent surgery after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
The actress, 43, who appeared in a number of episodes of popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory, took to TikTok to share her diagnosis with fans.
Posting a video from her hospital bed, Kate said: "Hey everybody, this is not a TikTok, it's a Sick Tok. I’m in the hospital but it’s because I had lung cancer surgery yesterday. They caught it really early.
"It’s really weird, because I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life so uh, you know, it was a surprise. But also I guess, also, it happens and so the greatest news is they caught it early, they got it out, I’m all good."
She continued: "It’s been a little bit of a trip and I'll probably be moving slow for a few weeks but then I’ll be back at it. Why am I still talking… ‘cause I’m on drugs!'"
Discussing how she was first diagnosed, Kate explained: "I had one thing in my bloodwork that came back really high.
"So I went to a preventative doc who did a few scans. He scanned my heart and that’s where the spot in my lung was noticed."
Fans were quick to send their well-wishes to the comedian and actress, with one writing: "Sending love and healing!"
"Get well soon best wishes and good luck with your recovery" added another, while a third penned: "Glad they caught it early. Get lots of rest and be gentle on yourself when you do a lot of thinking about it in the days to come."
And a fourth added: "You are the best. Take it easy and heal up. So many people are thinking about you and wishing you nothing but to heal up and get better, including me!"
Kate appeared in eight episodes of The Big Bang Theory as Raj's love interest Lucy. She has since gone on to appear in Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, Supergirl, and Raising Hope.
She often works as a voice actor, and has voiced Scooby Doo's Velma Dinkley in a number of TV shows and movies.
She is also one half of the musical comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates with fellow actress and comedian Riki Lindhome.
Kate is married to musician and recording producer Jake Sinclair, with whom she shares her three-year-old son, whose name she has not publicly shared.
