‘We went a good few minutes without anything Some good intent and I thought our attitude was great throughout.

He added: ‘We want to keep progressing and be a better team.’

At the end of the match all three of George Ford, Marcus Smith and Farrell were on the field.

It was an interesting move from Borthwick, with Farrell lauding his two team-mates.

Farrell: ‘There’s two good players you’re talking about there and when you get good players on the pitch there’s always good communitcation. The whole team has an attitude towards us improving and hopefully that showed today.’

TRY! FOUR FOR ARUNDELL

By Ed Carruthers

Henry Arundell is having a dream World Cup debut!

He gets his fourth try thanks to a lovely pass out wide from Ford, breaking the line to chip over the Chile full-back.

The bounce isn’t kind and he still has a little bit of work to do to reach high and pluck the ball out of the air, dotting down with an excellent bit of skill.

England 52-0 Chile

Ford, Farrell, Smith – A creative combination

By Ed Carruthers

England have three play makers on the field right now.

It’ll be interesting to see how they gel in the back line.

Smith will provide plenty of pace out wide with Ford and Farrell sitting in the middle in the play-maker positions.

The trio have been on the field for a few minutes now, but England haven’t really had much of the ball in what’s been a scrappy five mintues.

Chile have been pinned back on their try line but they’ve recovered some ground with a lineout just off the half-way line here.

More subs for England

By Ed Carruthers

Theo Dan receives a standing ovation as he is replaced by Will Stuart.

Jack Walker comes on for Kyle Sinkler in the front row.

England’s handling has impressed, but they have conceded a few handling errors, perhaps more than Borthwick may want.

HT: Farrell converts to put England 31 points ahead

By Ed Carruthers

Owen Farrell makes the kick from Smith’s try putting England 31 points up at the break.

While Chile have been exciting at points during the first 40 minutes with the ball in hand, they’ve struggled to fend off England’s attack has looked very fluid so far.

While it’s to be expected, considering England’s experience at the top level of the game, they’ve made 378 metres so far amassing 81 carries to Chile’s 34.

They’ve dominated with the ball in hand with Arundell scoring twice and Rodd and Dan crashing over for their first tries in an England shirt.

Borthwick’s side are certainly out to play a different game this week too.

They’ve had several penalties under the posts and in kickable positions but have opted to keep the ball in play, opting for the scrum and to tap instead.

They’ve kicked noticeably less too – showing their class with the ball in hand.

Smith wrapped up a dominant first half tearing through the Chile defence, turning on the after burners to touch down in the left corner.

But it was a sluggish start for England – who took 21 minutes to get on the score sheet.

Steve Borthwick will no doubt be hoping for a faster start in the second term.

The Red Rose have a line out inside Chile’s 22.

What a start!

By Ed Carruthers

Both sides are playing some excellent rugby!

An enthralling start with england on the attack again.

But they’ve lost it!

Excellent counter rucking from Chile who once again deny England a score after breaking into their danger zone.

Defesively, Chile have been excellent so far, with England failing to seecure the ball in the contact.

But the score remains 0-0 after 14 minutes.

But the pass is just over his head and goes out of play! Fine margins for England so far…

England looking good with the ball in hand!

By Ed Carruthers

Three minutes gone her in Lille and England are looking great on the ball.

Henry Arundell’s got his hands on the ball on the wing while Danny Care’s been at his usual self sniping around the fringes.

They revceive a penalty in the middle of the park and nudge a kick to the corner for a line-out.

England recover the ball of the top of the set piece, with Care throwing out wide. Marcus Smith picks up the ball in midfield and grubbers the ball through to Daly on the wing, but Chile recover and dot down for a five metre scrum on the far side.

Woodward – 'Can Care and Farrell get the pace of the game up?'

By Ed Carruthers

Danny Care and Owen Farrell will re-unite their partnership at No 9 and No 10 for England this afternoon.

England fans no doubt will be hoping the team will play more running rugby this week and Farrell and Care will be key in initiating those attacks.

With Smith at 15 too, and Arundell and Malins on the wings, England have plenty of options here to play the ball through the hands.

Borthwick brings in the young stars

By Ed Carruthers

Precocious prodigy Marcus Smith came on to play at full-back in the dying embers of England’s win against Japan.

Smith looked good coming through from the back, and during his time on the field, he impressed coming through from the back, setting up several attacking moves, while giving the side a little more creativity in attack.

He’ll come into the side for his first ever professional start at 15 and will hope to add a little more pace through the back.

He’ll be flanked in the back three by Max Malins and Henry Arundell, two exciting players that are great ball carriers and are yet to get a start during the tournament so far.

It will be particularly interesting to see how Arundell gets on today especially since being given the backing of MailSport columnist Clive Woodward…

RECAP: England beat Japan to go top of Pool D

By Ed Carruthers

Sunday’s victory against Japan saw England shore up their standing at the top of Pool D.

But it was not a pretty win. Borthwick siad after the match that he was impressed with how England found a way to win, but it was not the most inspiring performance.

England clicked in the final quarter of the match, with Lewis Ludlam crashing over in the first half to secure the first try.

George Ford continued his form with the boot, kicking 14 points, with a header from Joe Marler teeing up Courtney Lawes for a bizarre try in the 56th minute.

Ford would kick a weaker foot crossfield kick to put Freddie Steward in for their third try of the match, before Joe Marchant crossed the line for the bonus point in the last play of the game.

Steve Borthwick defended his side after the match claiming: ‘I think ultimately, players find a way and that’s the important thing,’ said Borthwick. ‘In these conditions, it was challenging.’

But Sir Clive Woodward and Lawrence Dallaglio, with the 2003 winning coach hitting slamming the comments.

‘I think in world cups winning is everything,’ Woodward said on the comments. ‘With respect to Magne, how many world cups have France won?’

Dallaglio said: ‘I think what he’s saying is that we’re kicking too much. I don’t like calling it winning rugby – I don’t like that because rugby is a beautiful game.’
