BBC Strictlys Krishnan Guru Murthys son towers over him as they enjoy evening out after he missed out on Blackpool Week

He might have lost out on his place in Blackpool this weekend, but Strictly Come Dancing star Krishnan Guru-Murthy, 53, was full of smiles as he enjoyed his newfound freedom from dance training for a night on the town with his rarely-seen son.

The father and son duo looked smart and suited in shades of chic grey as the appeared on the red carpet at a film premiere in London.

The Channel 4 newsreader lost out to Angela Rippon on Saturday and missed out on a trip to the Blackpool Ballroom as a result, leaving him in tears.

However, he has moved on and was spotted posing for the camera with his handsome son, Jay, 16, who was originally embarrassed of his dad's appearance on the dancing show. The teenager reportedly begged his father not to take part in the dancing competition and refused to attend the launch episode alongside the rest of the family.

He told The Daily Mail at the time: "'He begged me not to. It got to the point where, the week before I started and I hadn't signed my contract, which I casually mentioned and he said, 'You haven't signed your contract, so you don't have to do it? Please don't do it.'"

He since loosened up to the idea the further his dad progressed in the show, eventually joining his mum in the audience and cheering him on. Krishnan soon found a fun way to get his own back on his son and turned the table on him during his Paso Double dance with partner Lauren Oakley to By The Way by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Krishnan, who was dressed in a glittering black suit with sheer panels and a dramatic black eyeliner, showed a massive sign behind him as he listened to the judges' feedback, saying 'Welcome Jay.' Laughing it off while silently cringing, Jay managed to see the funny side.

In comical Strictly-style, as the weeks progressed, so did the size of the welcoming banner for Jay.

Krishnan, who is married to Lisa Guru-Murthy and has two children, spoke about the change in Jay's attitude to his Strictly performances.

He said: "His feedback was very muted to start with. He came through the door at 11pm on Saturday night and said he had watched the show and then I asked 'what did you think?'

"He then asked if he could come next week, which was great, it is such a breakthrough. He didn't want me to do it and now he wants to come to the studio and watch."

The highly-anticipated Strictly Come Dancing Blackpool special is almost upon us, and the stars have been making the most of their trip up North with lots taking to their Instagram accounts to show their excitement to be performing in the dance capital of the UK.
