Doctor Whos David Tennant addresses being jealous of new Time Lord

Doctor Who: BBC release anniversary special trailer

Doctor Who legend David Tennant, who is returning to the show for three feature-length specials which start airing this weekend has admitted that he is jealous of incoming Time Lord Ncuti Gatwa.

He made the revelation speaking in advance of the show’s 60th anniversary celebrations which have been going on all week.

“I’m excited and jealous of everything that Ncuti has in front of him,” the Scottish actor confessed.

“And I can’t wait to enjoy it as a viewer, because I think he’s magnificent.

“I think they thought, ‘Let the old man run around for a minute – and then we’ll get a nice, young bloke in,’” he joked to Radio Times.

David played the tenth incarnation of the character from 2005 until 2010 over three series and several specials, returning to the role for the 50th-anniversary celebrations in 2013.

However, this time he is back as the Fourteenth Doctor who has the same face as Ten but is a different character.

Fans got a taste of his new incarnation on Children In Need when he appeared in a specially filmed mini-episode called Genesis of the Daleks.

David gave an insight into how his return came about in the same interview.

He said: “Russell [T. Davies] and Catherine [Tate] were talking about the notion of: ‘What if we got the band back together for one last special? But David would never do it.’

“And I said, ‘I’d do it in a shot.’ And then suddenly, we were back for three in a row,” he revealed
