Pilot killed after plane crashes during pink water gender reveal stunt

A shocking video has captured the moment a gender reveal party became a tragedy after a plane being used to make the announcement crashed.

The clip, which has been circulating on social media, shows a couple standing in front of a huge sign that was decorated with gold, blue and pink balloons during their celebrations in Mexico.

The expectant parents watched as a Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee aircraft flew overhead and released a huge plume of what appeared to be pink water to symbolise having a baby girl.

While the family seemed overjoyed at the news, events quickly turned tragic as the small plane descended in a nosedive just seconds later.

The gender reveal party guests continued to celebrate the happy news, seemingly unaware the aircraft had just been in a death spiral following a failure with the left wing.

A concerned partygoer called emergency services that they were able to respond to the incident, The New York Post reports.

Photos of the wreckage have since been uploaded to social media – showing the aircraft damaged beyond repair.

The Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee crashed after the the 'left-hand wing failed after an emergency hopper release of (pink dyed) water during a gender reveal party', the Aviation Safety Network.

The pilot has since been identified as 32-year-old Luis Ángel. Reports say he was rushed to the Mexican Social Security Institute following the incident, but later died.

No other injuries were reported.

But the video has sparked a debate around the lengths people go to celebrate the sex of their child.

One person wrote on Twitter: "Gender reveal parties are cursed."

Another added: "These gender reveal parties are getting out of hand when people die annually because of them."

A third added: "Whoever took the video, was not interested in the fact that the plane crashed."
