Security camera captures moment masked man tries to break into a home in the early hours – as owner issues a warning to local residents

A security camera has captured the moment a masked man tried to break into a home, as the owner issues a warning to locals.

The footage shows the man approaching the front door of an Edinburgh house before trying the handle and quickly walking away.

This happened at 4.20am on Wednesday in the Corstorphine area of the city, but it is not known if the man tried to gain access to any other properties.

Eddie Wong, who owns the home, wants others in the area to be wary and make sure their house are secure.

Mr Wong told EdinburghLive: ‘I am on Craigmount View and this is my front door camera catching a burglar checking my front door earlier this morning.

‘Heads up for everyone in the area to ensure doors are locked.’

There is advice on keeping houses secure on Police Scotland’s website.

It reads: ‘Having your home broken into is not common. There are however many ways that you can help secure your home.

‘They don’t all cost money – some are common sense and good housekeeping. Keep your home locked at all times.’
